Kris Parkin
After growing up and living most
of my life in Hunterdon County, New Jersey I enrolled
for classes at a local college. That was 6 years ago
and also the point at which clay entered my life.
I
began with basic ceramics classes which focused
on wheel thrown, functional vessels and pots. Clay
very
quickly encompassed my life, redirecting my ambitions
and goals. I have since taken numerous classes
and workshops at Mason Gross School of the Artsat Rutgers
University and Peters Valley Craft Education Center.
When
working in clay it seems natural to approach my work
in a very creative and flexible way. This
approach or philosophy seems to allow for a certain
degree
of freedom in my work. Specifically the freedom to work intuitively or in
an improvisational manner. My clay work remains functional,
inviting the touch
and intent on creating relationships between
its users. However simple or functional
my work may be I feel that it reflects my approach and is visibly translated
in terms of form and aesthetic.
